Fax

We suggest mVoice for an electronic fax service.

This service does not require a physical phone line or fax machine, but you will be assigned a fax number, or can port (transfer) an existing number.

When a fax is sent to your fax number, it will be received via email as a PDF document.

To send a fax, you email it to (areacode)(faxnumber)@fax.mvoice.com.au – eg 0738391251@fax.mvoice.com.au
You will get an email confirmation of any fax sent and can login to your account to see what faxes have been sent and received at any time.

Cost analysis

Typical small business which sends 100 single pages per month:

Paper Fax Paperless Fax
Line Rental ~ $30
Plan fee $9.95
Cost per connection 20c x 100 = $20
No connection cost
Total $50
Total $9.95
Saving $40.05

Sends 30 x 10 page faxes per month:

Paper Fax Paperless Fax
Line Rental ~ $30
Plan fee $9.95
Cost per connection 20c x 30 = $6
Price per page > 100 = 15c = $30
Total $36
Total $39.95
Saving $3.95

This is a simple calculation to demonstrate that while this is a good idea for most businesses, excessive fax users may be better off remaining with a dedicated fax machine / line.

Note that in either scenario received faxes also cost money in the paperless system where they usually do not with paper.

Note also that the cost of purchasing and running the fax machine and electricity have not been factored in.
