Support for Windows 7 has ended
All good things must come to an end, even Windows 7. After January 14, 2020, Microsoft is no longer providing security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. But you can keep the good times rolling by moving to Windows 10.
From January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer officially support Windows 7
If you’re one of the 40% of the world that used Windows 7, it might come as a shock to hear that Microsoft will no longer be supporting the incredibly popular Operating System, and as part of their continued turnover of software, have given an ultimatum of January 14, 2020.
Will my computer stop working?
No, your computer will continue functioning normally. (for the most part)
The problem with using Windows 7 past January 14th is that Microsoft will no longer provide security patches and updates. Your computer, and everything on it could be infected by new viruses, or visible to hackers if new exploits are found.
Additionally, software like Genie will no longer be developed for Windows 7, so many of your programs will show errors or fail to start.
How do I update my computer?
We recommend replacing the computer outright. Though it may be a hassle, installing a new Operating System like Windows 10 on a computer that wasn’t designed for it can lead to slowness and more problems down the line.
What are the risks of not updating?
As above, you may want to keep using your computer as before. For the most part, it will work as normal. The concern of Microsoft no longer pushing updates means the Operating System is ‘set in stone’. Any exploits that existed before January 14th will remain open for hackers. Furthermore, you miss out on improvements to the system architecture in later Operating Systems.
Can my files be copied to a new computer?
Yes! Health IT can arrange a complete transfer of all your old files to a new computer, so you won’t lose anything in the upgrade.
