When your computer Won't boot

For more general troubleshooting articles, click here

Often your computer is trying to boot up from some external piece of hardware. To test if this is the case, start by removing CDs or – God forbid – floppy disks from the computer. You’ll also want to make sure no USB thumbdrives or printers are plugged in. Even a dodgy mouse can interrupt a computer starting up!

Try unplugging everything except screen and keyboard and reboot the computer.

If you’re still not having luck, take note of any system “beeps” that sound when trying to turn the computer on, and if there’s any unusual sounds/lights, then get in touch with us.
